Rajasthan Clears ₹26,000 Crore Transmission Plan to Power Renewable Energy Revival – EQ

In Detail : Rajasthan has approved a ₹26,000 crore investment for the development of 15 transmission line projects aimed at strengthening the state’s renewable energy infrastructure. This move is expected to significantly improve the evacuation of solar and wind power generated across the state.
The planned transmission network includes nine lines of 765 kV, four lines of 400 kV, and two lines of 220 kV. These high-capacity lines will help remove grid congestion that has delayed several solar and wind projects over the past three years.
The state’s power transmission utility, Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Prasaran Nigam (RVPN), has been tasked with executing the projects. The approval allows RVPN to participate in tariff-based competitive bidding for projects valued above ₹300 crore, which was previously not permitted.
By enhancing transmission infrastructure, the state aims to ensure timely evacuation of electricity from large solar parks and wind farms. This will help developers avoid curtailments and improve financial viability of projects.
The decision is also expected to unlock investment and accelerate renewable energy development in western Rajasthan, where solar and wind resources are abundant but have remained underutilized due to transmission constraints.
With this move, Rajasthan seeks to reestablish itself as a national leader in solar energy capacity and contribute significantly to India’s broader renewable energy goals.
