In Short : Gujarat has achieved 35.16 GW of renewable energy capacity, becoming India’s top state in clean energy. The portfolio includes solar, wind, hydro, and bioenergy, with 5.31 GW from rooftop solar alone. Backed by battery storage and innovative projects, Gujarat generated 32,790 million units of green power in FY 2024–25, supporting India’s 2070 net-zero emissions goal.

In Detail : Gujarat has reached a major milestone by achieving 35.16 GW of installed renewable energy capacity as of April 30, 2025. This achievement positions the state as the leader in India’s clean energy drive, surpassing Rajasthan and reflecting its strong commitment to sustainability and green growth.

The state’s renewable energy mix is diverse and robust. It includes 19.42 GW from solar energy, 13.51 GW from wind, 106.64 MW from small hydro, 1.99 GW from large hydro, and 129.85 MW from bioenergy. This balanced approach enhances energy security while reducing dependency on fossil fuels.

Gujarat is also a national leader in rooftop solar installations, with a total capacity of 5.31 GW. This segment alone accounts for 15.72% of India’s overall renewable capacity, highlighting strong public participation and government support for decentralized energy generation.

To ensure consistent energy supply, Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited (GUVNL) has secured agreements for battery energy storage systems totaling 1,192 MW / 4,777 MWh. These systems will store excess renewable power for use during peak demand, especially supporting industrial energy needs.

In the fiscal year 2024–25, Gujarat generated around 32,790 million units of electricity from renewable sources. This output represented over 22% of the state’s total electricity consumption, a significant contribution to decarbonizing the energy sector.

Innovative projects, such as the 35 MW solar PV system with 57 MWh battery storage at the Kutch Lignite Thermal Power Station, showcase Gujarat’s efforts to integrate renewables into existing infrastructure. These advances firmly position the state as a model for sustainable energy development in line with India’s 2070 net-zero emissions target.
